THE INSPIRATION FOR HILLSIDE STUDIO
Growing up I was surrounded by pottery. We ate off plates thrown by my mom, painted by my grandmother, and fired in a kiln by my dad. And though my parent's pottery store, Hillside Pottery, has been out of business for a while, their work had a lasting impact on my own views of art.
In their pottery and in their current art, making amazing food in their out-door oven, my parents have modeled a way of creating that is grounded in simplicity and practicality, while seeking excellence and a desire to serve others.
The name, Hillside Studio, is in part a tribute to their work and a connection to the memory of their pottery store, Hillside Pottery.
DREAMS FOR HILLSIDE STUDIO
My dream for Hillside Studio is to create opportunities for artists and non-artists to find time to come together to create and cultivate practical ways to experience and create beauty in the world.
It is my hope that through a commitment to excellence, the art that comes out of this Studio will serve and bring beauty to the lives of those who come in contact with it. - Sarah Carleton
