UPDATE
Even though we can’t meet in person to experience the beautiful work of Slingsby in Pittsburgh you can still connect with their work on-line. Find out more about the amazing ways Slingsby is still reaching out to audiences during this time.
“At Slingsby, we are no strangers to tackling the harder moments of life – so right now we are determined to keep the joy and wonder of live performance alive for you and your students. Nothing can compare to the ‘shared time and space’ of live theatre, but in extraordinary times we must learn to adapt. When the plague hit London in 1608, Shakespeare and the Kings Men hit the road and began touring the countryside of England – so in these times of limited movement we shall venture online.
Slingsby by Request has been created for you and is generating income for the award winning artists at the heart of our productions.”
I’m excited to be helping out again this year with the EQT Children’s Theater Festival in Pittsburgh. This year I have the privilege of helping out the amazing theater company Slingsby as they bring their show Emil and the Detectives all the way from Australia.

Emil and the Detectives
Never underestimate the determination of a child! Kästner’s 1929 novella broke ground for the independent-children-versus-devious-adults story genre. Young Emil catches a train to visit family in the big city. Something valuable is stolen, but the thief soon discovers Emil was not such an easy target. A group of quick-thinking and resourceful children rallies. Can a bunch of kids work together to uncover and outsmart the true criminal? Streetwise city kids, a hard-working single mother, and Emil’s past brush with the law add grit and nuance to this satisfying tale. In Slingsby’s signature intimate theatrical style, Emil and The Detectives is told by two skilled actors immersed in smoke and mirrors, miniature worlds, and a cinematic score.
